    The Kindergarten year is filled with fun, exploration, and lots of learning!  I want you and your family to be familiar with the many things your child will be learning this year so that your child will be successful.  The following is a list of all of the things your child will be tested on in accordance with the report card.  There may be some items you are not familiar with, if so, please feel free to contact me for more information and help with those items.  I am looking forward to a fun-filled year!

 

                        

                             

  • Repeats an 8 to 10 word sentence
  • Can speak clearly using nouns, verbs, etc...  (complete sentences)
  • Uses oral expression
  • Rhyming
  • Syllables (can clap and tell how many syllables are in a word)
  • Segments words (can count on fingers and/or say how many sounds are in a word
  • Can distinguish what letter a word starts with (ex.a,k,pl,sk,etc..)
  • Onset and rime blending (teacher says: /s/it, /kl/ap, and the student determines what is being said)
  • Able to legibly write letters of the alphabet (uppercase and lowercase)
  • Able to say the sounds of each letter in the alphabet
  • Able to identify letters, pictures, sight words, sounds of letters, etc. in a certain amount of time (ex. 10-20 pictures in 1 minute, 10-15 letters in 1 minute)
  • Can retell a story
  • Recalls details from a story
  • Make predictions
  • Draws conclusions from pictures in a story
  • Sequence of events (what happens first, second, next, last)
  • Able to legibly write numbers 0-100
  • Able to identify colors, shapes, positional words (over, under, between, beside, inside, on top, bottom, middle)
  • Able to identify same and different, left and right, greater than/less than, more and less, greater/fewer, one more than, and equal parts
  • Able to identify ordinal numbers (first, second, third, etc.)
  • Able to identify coins and their values
  • Able to compare, order, count, read, and estimate numbers 1-100
  • Use tally marks
  • Symmetry, flips, sides, turns
  • Solids and plane shapes
  • Tell time to the hour and half hour on a clock
  • Identify a calendar and its parts
  • Able to place numbers on a number line
  • Identify, create, and extend a pattern
  • Identify and use graphs and charts
  • Length, distance, height, capacity, weight, temperature
  • Probability
  • Classify everyday objects
  • Add/subtract whole numbers
  • Odd/even numbers
  • Skip counting (count by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s)
  • Place value
  • Match numbers to sets of objects
